Introduction
This paper explains the commercial statement that Nexans Cat7A cabling system is “ready for 40G” and assesses the validity of this claim at the beginning of 2012. It will clarify the nature of this claim, but also boundaries of the claim, and provides recommendations on how to use LANmark-7A in order to be 40G ready.
Background
Nexans launched its Cat7A product offering during 2008 and stated then that the LANmark-7A cabling system would support data rates of up to 40Gbps. This claim was related to Nexans’ LANmark-7A product offer, which is not just minimally compliant to ISO Cat7A, and was backed up by the demonstration that LANmark-7A supports more than 50Gb Transmission Capacity which could enable a 40Gb application.
