NDIA signs Qtel partnership deal

New Doha International Airport (NDIA) has signed an agreement to partner with Qtel, following a “highly competitive review process that involved many of the world’s leading communications companies.”

Qatar’s state-of-the-art facility airport will be one of the world’s major aviation hubs when it opens in 2012, capable of supporting more than 50 million passengers, two million tonnes of cargo, and 100 aircraft parking stands when fully developed.

The agreement was formally signed yesterday at a ceremony attended by senior representatives of Qtel and NDIA.

“Qatar is forging ahead building the world’s finest transport facilities, connecting the world and enabling the further economic development of our nation. We are proud to have been selected as a communication partner and we will ensure that the communication infrastructure available at NDIA is among the finest in the world,” said His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, chairman at Qtel.

“We believe that Qatar’s investment in aviation connectivity and communication connectivity will help transform our nation into one of the leading countries of the information age, and we are proud to be making this contribution,” he added.

As the new home of Qatar Airways, the world’s fastest-growing premium airline, NDIA will function as a major gateway to the region.

“NDIA has been designed to be a state-of-the-art facility, setting new standards in airport and airline efficiency, passenger convenience and service levels. We reviewed the solutions proposed by some of the world’s best communications companies, and decided that Qtel was the partner who would deliver the right solution for our passengers and for the airlines,” said Abdul Aziz Mohammad al-Noaimi, steering committee chairman at NDIA.

Through the agreement, Qtel will provide an Airport Wide Telephone System (AWTS), deploying IP telephony to deliver voice services customised to interface with NDIA’s specific Airport Wide Applications.
