EMC: Cloud amplifying transformation in IT

Cloud computing is causing a major transformation in the business and IT industry in general, says EMC.

“The pace of transformation is accelerating,” says EMC Asia Pacific & Japan, Corporate Vice President & CTO Par Botes.

In a study by Gartner, results show that cloud is becoming a priority by organisations; with 77% of companies starting to use public cloud in 2011, and 78% confirming implementation of private cloud strategies by 2014.

On a local perspective, EMC Philippines Country Manager, Ronnie Latinazo, shares that various organisations are increasingly adapting to this enabling technology. There is “an improvement with the way things are being done in the Philippines,” he says.

Latinazo notes that local firms from the banking, utilities and real estate, among others, are stepping up efforts to move into the cloud.

EMC further cites a survey by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines where the IT-BPO and shared services companies, and the government agencies, are investing in cloud technologies to improve global competitiveness and decrease costs.

This, the firm sees, is fuelled by telecommunications networks’ launch of the LTE network and the recent signing into law of the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

“Organisations can lead the transformation by transforming themselves,” imparts Botes. “IT will become the technology broker delivering efficiency and agility to the enterprise.”
